29 Mar In The Pink
Rhubarb Season is nigh, and as you can see, we’re over the moon about it.
We’ve been having a right laugh Up North with our mates at Siop Shop, in Manchester, as we hauled a bright pink bounty of fresh Rhubarb stalks up to them, and using their mighty dougnut skills they created this joyous limited edition Rhubarb and Custard Crumble Doughnut. A proud and extremely delicious moment for rhubarb lovers everywhere.
So what else can one do with Rhubarb? Oi! Keep your filthy ideas to yourself, what we’re talking about is Pairing Like A Pro.
By which we mean, for maximum enjoyment of our Rhubarb Soda, try a few of our cheeky tips:
Rhubarb and Juniper are excellent flavour partners, particularly in a gin based boozy sorbet or granita – see our recipe below. If you’d rather give the gin a miss then we highly recommend Seedlip Spice 94 as a fabulous alcohol free option, with cardamom and citrus ready to dance a juicy tango with our fruity soda.
The richness of Vanilla is best buds with Rhubarb, and adding a savoury herbal touch really smashes this combo out of the park. Try our sipper recipe below if you don’t believe us.
Rhubarb and Lamb are also best friends, with the great balance of richness with sharp fruitiness. Perfect with roasted Spring Lamb for Sunday lunch, or maybe one day, one glorious, sunshine filled future day, smoky Lamb Chops on the barbie with a crisp glass of Rhubarb Soda on the side. Cwor, bring on the summer!!!
Rhubarb Cocktail Granita
Dissolve a spoonful of caster sugar in two bottles of Rhubarb Soda. Add two 35ml shots of your fave juniper-heavy gin, or Seedlip Spice 94, and freeze, scraping and mashing with a fork every hour to create delicious crystals of fruity cocktail refreshment.
Rhubarb Vanilla Sipper
Splash super simple homemade Vanilla syrup over ice, top with Rhubarb Soda, and swirl with a sprig of fresh Rosemary for an elegant booze free tipple. For extra chef points smack the Rosemary against your kitchen counter beforehand, releasing the fragrant oils.
